My camera is a tool for discovery, and a way to reference, remember and recite my experiences. Taking pictures is my way of discovering and documenting the world around me, especially the natural world. I admire the beauty of wildlife and the natural world, and I am fascinated with the stories and histories of the people that live and work on the land. I use photography as a means to communicate and share this fascination.

In this project I documented a year of living and working in the oil industry in Fort McMurray. I wanted capture this experience with a more abstract approach, as opposed to traditional documentary photography. As a labourer, I was able to break down the barrier between photographer and subject. In this series, I explore the fragility of the natural world as well as that of the human spirit, and I discovered how intertwined they are.
